Bus service proposal: Route E9

Closed 4 Dec 2015

Opened 2 Nov 2015

Results Updated 18 Mar 2016

We received 237 responses to the consultation of which 235 were from members of the public. 81% of the responses were in favour of using double deck buses on the route and 11% did not support the proposal. 8% were not sure, did not answer the question or offered no opinion.

We have considered all of the comments made and have decided to go ahead with our proposal to use double deck buses on route E9. We are working with the local authority to prune the trees along the route. We plan to introduce double deck buses during early summer 2016.

We also reviewed comments made regarding fixed stops around the Barnhill Estate. We are going to work with the local authority and review possible locations for fixed stops. These stops will impact on the roads around the estate so a further consultation will be undertaken by the local authority regarding parking and bus stop locations. As yet it is unclear when this may take place.

Update ends

We asked to hear your views on our proposals to convert route E9 to double deck buses.

What we proposed?

Over the last five years, usage of the E9 service has increased by 10%. Over the next few years, the route is expected to become even busier especially with the opening of Crossrail and the connection with the station at Ealing Broadway.

To provide the additional capacity, we proposed to replace the existing single deck vehicles on route E9 with double deck buses.

We did not propose to make any changes to the frequency of the service.

In addition we proposed to replace the existing hail and ride arrangements in Barnhill Estate with accessible fixed stops. Once the exact locations have been agreed with Ealing council, we will write to local residents with full details. These new bus stops will provide accessible boarding points, allowing the bus to pull into the kerb to provide level access from the pavement to inside the vehicle. It may not however be possible to install the bus stops at the exact locations where the bus stops within the estate.

This consultation was open between 19 October and 20 November 2015.

This consultation is part of the process which fulfils the requirement for TfL to consult under Section 183 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999.
