Results Updated 9 Apr 2020

Between 15 November and 23 December 2018, we consulted on proposals to extend route 483 from Ealing Hospital to Windmill Lane.

We received 307 responses to the consultation (including three responses from stakeholders). Of these, the majority (76%) stated that they either supported or strongly supported the proposed changes, around 4% either supported nor opposed them, while 18% said they opposed or strongly opposed them.

After carefully considering all responses and feedback received, we have decided to proceed with our proposals to extend route 483, and have amended these so that buses will continue to stop within the grounds of Ealing Hospital. Subject to installing welfare facilities for bus drivers we plan to introduce changes from 23 May 2020. Our consultation report can be found below.

We regularly review our bus network, so that we can provide the best service possible for our customers in the most cost effective way.

Bus route 483 currently runs from Harrow Bus Station to Ealing Hospital serving Ealing Broadway, Hanwell, Wembley and Harrow. We are proposing to extend this route from Ealing Hospital to Windmill Lane, providing an additional three bus stops, so that our transport network is accessible to even more parts of the local area.

A map showing the proposed changes can be found below.

Proposed changes to bus route 483

The extension would create a number of benefits for those who live and work in the area, including bringing the bus network closer to:

  • Around 2,000 people who work on the Great Western Industrial Estate, so they would be within 400-600 metres of it
  • Around 350 households that are currently up to 1km from the bus network, so they would be within 400 metres of it

The route would also share bus stops on Uxbridge Road with main bus routes heading to destinations such as Uxbridge, Hayes, West Ealing, Ealing Broadway, Wembley and Harrow.

Under these proposed changes to extend the 483 route:

  • The bus will no longer serve stops within Ealing Hospital’s grounds, but instead continue along Uxbridge Road serving existing bus stops: Ealing Hospital (Q and P) and St. Bernard’s Gatehouse (UJ and UH). Stops Q and P are around 120-140 metres away from the main hospital building, depending on the direction of travel and are connected by signalised pedestrian crossings.
  • The frequency of the route will reduce from every 10 minutes to every 12 minutes on Sundays during the day, to better match capacity with passenger demand

A 10 minute service currently runs from 09:00 to 18:00, and the evening service is already every 12 minutes. This would allow us to reallocate resources to other bus routes where the need is greater.

Subject to the outcome of consultation the changes would take place in spring 2019.

Please note these proposals can only go ahead once appropriate toilet facilities can be found for bus drivers at Windmill Lane, where the bus would terminate.
