Bus Service Change: Route 25

Closed 15 Jul 2011

Opened 10 May 2011

The London Bus Network is kept under regular review. As part of this, we develop proposals for changes to services.

From Saturday 14 May 2011 buses on route 25 will return to their normal route through the City of London and no longer be diverted eastbound to avoid St Botolph Street.

Bridge strengthening works at St Botolph Street, which commenced in June 2008, meant that eastbound buses on route 25 had to be diverted away from a large stretch of its normal route through the City of London. The works are now complete and buses on route 25 are now able to use St Botolph Street again.

Additionally, works to improve the streetscape at Cheapside continue with eastbound traffic diversions in place until approximately August 2011. (Eastbound via New Change and Cannon Street).

Therefore from 14 May 2011 eastbound buses on route 25 will return to serving Cornhill, Bank, Leadenhall Street, Aldgate, St Botolph Street and Whitchapel High Street. Buses will no longer serve bus stops on Cannon Street, Eastcheap, Great Tower Street, Byward Street, Tower Hill, Minories, Goodmans Yard or Mansell Street.

Information will placed at bus stops that will no longer be served, and additionally at the stops route 25 will serve again.

There are a large number of work sites within the City of London, all of differing durations and impacts upon the bus network. Set out below are known key diversions planned for route 25 over this summer;

Additional projects and changes

From 25 June 2011, the route will be converted from bendy-bus operation to double deck operation with revised frequencies.

From 16 July 2011 works to construct a new Crossrail station at Liverpool Street & Moorgate will mean Moorgate (the road) is closed to all southbound traffic. Buses are likely to be delayed and diverted in the surrounding area.

Additionally there are a number of other known large construction projects that may mean buses in the City of London are subject to diversion and disruption.
