Results Updated 16 Apr 2012

Following a significant rise in passenger usage on route 81 on Sundays, Transport for London (TfL) recently consulted on proposals to increase the Sunday shopping period frequencies from a bus every 20 minutes to a bus every 15 minutes.

TfL also consulted on a proposal to convert route 222 to full double deck operation using 87 capacity buses, together with a marginal reduction in the frequency at peak times from a bus every 7 to 8 minutes to a bus every 8 minutes. This proposal would provide at least 16% extra capacity in the peak hour.

A total of 15 consultation responses were received. A full consultation summary can be found here

After carefully considering all responses, we plan to go ahead with the proposed changes which will be introduced from 14 April 2012 for route 81 and in September 2012 for route 222.

Overview

The London bus network is kept under regular review. As part of this, we develop proposals for changes to services.

Why we consulted

Route 81 (Slough – Hounslow)

In order to give more capacity we increased the westbound morning peak frequency in May 2011 from a bus every 11 to 12 minutes to a bus every 9 to 10 minutes arriving at Slough between 07:20 and 08:20. We also introduced extra resources to improve reliability.

Following a significant rise in passenger usage on this route on Sundays, we propose to increase Sunday shopping period frequencies from a bus every 20 minutes to a bus every 15 minutes.

During autumn 2011, we proposed to route buses towards Hounslow via Slough High Street at all times. This would be instead of the current routeing via Wellington Street which is in operation after 20:00 Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday.

Route 222 (Uxbridge – Hounslow)

Currently, this route uses both single deck buses (60 capacity) and double deck buses (87capacity). The double deck buses provide extra capacity for morning peak departures from West Drayton (towards Uxbridge), and afternoon peak departures from Uxbridge (towards West Drayton). We have received passenger requests to convert the whole service to double deck operation.

We proprosed to convert the route to full double deck operation using 87 capacity buses and to marginally reduce the frequency at peak times from a bus every 7- 8 minutes to a bus every 8 minutes. This will provide at least 16% extra capacity in the peak hour.
