Bus service proposal: routes 312, 412 & X26

The London Bus Network is kept under regular review. As part of this, we develop proposals for changes to services.

Why We Are Consulting

We have recently undertaken a review of bus services in the Croydon area to ensure that the frequency of service is appropriate following recent frequency changes to Tramlink services. As a result of the review we are proposing changes to bus routes 312, 412 and X26.

Route 312 currently operates between Norwood Junction and South Croydon (Bus Garage). Route 412 currently operates between West Croydon bus station and Purley Cross (Hospital).

Proposed Changes

We propose diverting existing route 312 at South Croydon (Swan and Sugarloaf) to operate along route 412 via Selsdon to Purley Cross (Hospital). The revised service would therefore operate between Norwood Junction and Purley Cross (Hospital).  The route number for the combined service will be 312.

As a result route 312 will no longer operate between the Swan and Sugarloaf and South Croydon bus garage and the new service will not run between George Street, Croydon, and West Croydon bus station. However routes 60, 166 and 407 will continue to link Brighton Road and West Croydon.

It is proposed that buses will run every 15 minutes during the day on Monday to Saturdays, every 20 minutes early evening Mondays to Saturdays and Sunday daytime, and every 30 minutes during the late evenings on all days of the week. This is the current level of service provided on route 412.

Route 312 currently runs every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes and every 20 minutes evenings and Sundays. However sufficient capacity will be provided to cater for the numbers of passengers using the revised service. We are proposing to operate the new 312 route with double deck buses similar to those currently used on route 412.

The route 312/412 proposal will allow terminating journeys on route X26 to be extended from their current stand in Wellesley Road to West Croydon Bus Station.
