Section 2: Victoria Park

Closes 21 Jun 2019

Opened 9 May 2019

Overview

Grove Road through Victoria Park is the only vehicle route through the park, providing a local connection to Mile End. It also provides a route for vehicles servicing the park. It divides the park, so there are a lot of park users crossing Grove Road. Our proposals would restrict vehicle access during the day, while maintaining access to the car park from the south.

Summary of proposals

  • New access restrictions- bus, cycle and taxi only access 07:00 to 19:00 on Grove Road within Victoria Park, reducing conflict between cyclists and other vehicles and improving comfort levels for cyclists. Access to car park retained from the southern side of the Park.
  • New cycle-friendly cobbles at the northern entrance to Victoria Park

Improvements for cycling

  • Replacement of some of the cobbled surface on Grove Road at the northern entrance to the park with cycle-friendly cobbles
  • Traffic reduction through the park, bus, cycle and Taxi only access 07:00 to 19:00 on Grove Road within Victoria Park, reducing conflict between cyclists and other vehicles and improving comfort levels for cyclists on roads through and around the park

Changes to buses

  • Buses will still retain full access through the park and may see some journey time improvements in this area due to the reduction in traffic

Road design and layout

  • Bus and cycle only access 07:00 to 19:00 on Grove Road within Victoria Park, reducing conflict between cyclists and other vehicles. The restriction will start at the junction with Old Ford Road and access to the car park will still be retained. North of the car park along Grove Road will be no entry (except buses, taxis cyclists) 07:00 - 19:00. These restrictions will be enforced via CCTV.

Parking and loading

  • Access to the car park within Victoria Park will be retained from the southern side of the park only. This will be enforced via CCTV.
