Section 4 – Vauxhall Bridge

Closed 14 Sep 2014

Opened 9 Jul 2014

Overview

Proposals include:

Segregated two-way cycle track replaces central eastbound bus lane

  • The cycle track would be between 3.7 and 3.8 metres wide
  • The cycle track would be at carriageway level and separated from general traffic by a kerb at least 0.5 metres wide
  • No blue cycle surfacing would be used on Vauxhall Bridge for heritage reasons
  • A short section of bus lane would be retained at the junction with Albert Embankment to allow buses to enter Vauxhall Bus Station
  • Our scheme and network traffic impact analysis shows that the completed scheme would mean longer journeys at busy times for most motorists and bus passengers in the area. We would work to mitigate the impact as much as possible, including continuing to invest in our already-sophisticated traffic management systems, and looking to reduce delays to buses by improving journey times at other locations on the same routes.
