Section 8 - Woolwich Church Street/Kingsman Street

Closed 16 Feb 2020

Opened 6 Jan 2020

Overview

Our proposals for this section are:

  • An eastbound and westbound traffic lane would be removed to make way for a new two-way segregated Cycleway, which would run along the south side of the A206 Woolwich Church Street
  • Bus stop DG on the A206 Woolwich Church Street would be sited on a new ‘bus stop bypass
  • The existing single yellow lines would be replaced with double yellow lines at Kingsman Street to approximately 60m west of the Woolwich Ferry roundabout on the south side of the road.  This would mean that parking would be prohibited at these locations at all times
  • The right turns for traffic from the A206 Woolwich Church Street to Kingsman Street, and from Kingsman Street onto the A206 would be banned.  These restrictions would reduce rat-running traffic on Kingsman Street
  • To the east of the junction with Kingsman Street, an eastbound traffic lane would be re-designated as a bus lane, which would operate from 07:00 - 19:00 Monday to Saturday
  • A new crossing for people walking and cycling, to improve access to Mast Quay
  • A new raised table at the junction with Church Hill to slow traffic and make it easier for people to cross

These proposed changes are illustrated in the drawing below.
