Section 9 - Woolwich Church Street/New Ferry Approach

Closed 16 Feb 2020

Opened 6 Jan 2020

Our proposals for this section are:

  • The existing single yellow lines would be replaced with double yellow lines at Kingsman Street to approximately 60m west of the Woolwich Ferry roundabout on the south side of the road.  This would mean that parking would be prohibited at these locations at all times
  • On the approach to the Woolwich Ferry roundabout a westbound traffic lane would be removed to provide space for a new two-way, segregated Cycleway, which would run along the south side of the A206 Woolwich Church Street
  • A new left-turn only filter lane on the eastbound approach to the Woolwich Ferry roundabout, to reduce congestion at the roundabout caused by traffic waiting to access the Woolwich Ferry
  • New signalised crossings for people walking and cycling, which would replace the existing zebra crossings on Woolwich Church Street. These would be sited just east of the Woolwich Ferry roundabout and additionally on John Wilson Street
  • New cycle lanes on the north side of the Woolwich Ferry roundabout and at the junction of John Wilson Street with Powis Street, to help cyclists access the Woolwich Ferry and Woolwich Town Centre more easily
  • The central reservation would be removed and the central island at the Woolwich Ferry roundabout would be reduced to provide space for the new two-way segregated Cycleway

These proposed changes are illustrated in the drawing below.
