Edgware Road (A5)

Closes 31 Dec 2020

Opened 1 Jul 2020

Overview

In May 2020 we made the following temporary changes on the section of Edgware Road between Marylebone Flyover and Seymour Street.

From north to south along Edgware Road, we have extended the pavement into the nearside carriageway in the following locations to provide extra space for pedestrians so that people can practice safe social distancing:

  • From no.258 to no.272 on the east side of Edgware Road, adjacent to Marks and Spencer
  • From no.216 to no.230 on the east side of Edgware Road
  • From no.186 to no.198 on the east side of Edgware Road
  • The entire eastern side of Edgware Road between Crawford Place and Harrowby Street, excluding the loading bay opposite McDonald’s, which will be retained and reduced to 15.9m
  • The western side of Edgware Road from no.139 Edgware Road (Simit Sarayi restaurant) to Barclays Bank
  • From no.115 (Ladbrokes) to no.121 (Beirut Café) on the west side of Edgware Road
  • The east side of Edgware Road adjacent to the Regent House development site
  • On both sides of Edgware Road between George Street/Kendal Street junction and Upper Berkley Street/Connaught Street junction, excluding the loading bay opposite Tesco Metro, which will be retained but reduced to 16.8m
  • On both sides of Edgware Road between the Berkley Street/Connaught Street junction and Seymour Street, excluding the loading bay opposite 56 Edgware Road (Beirut Express), which will be retained and reduced to 12.2m

Although we are not undertaking a formal consultation on any Streetspace schemes, we would like to know about your experiences of them. If you have any comments about the effects of our scheme, or suggestions for changes or improvements we might make, please let us know at: streetspacelondon@tfl.gov.uk

We will continue to monitor the effects of these temporary changes over the coming months. This includes their effects on traffic flow, road safety and cycling and walking rates. We have written to local people, businesses and other stakeholders to explain what changes we have made and encouraged them to provide us their views and experiences of the changes. We will listen carefully to the feedback we receive.
