The Olympic Route Network - Marble Arch to Great Portland Street

Closed 3 Jun 2011

Opened 10 May 2011

Overview

Transport for London is engaging on temporary changes to the way some roads will operate for the London 2012 Games next summer.

The roads are part of the Olympic and Paralympic Route Network (ORN/PRN) which will link Games venues and accommodation. They will be used to transport key participants, like athletes, officials and media to their destinations on time. They will be open to general traffic and will be kept clear of obstructions, such as planned road works.  In addition, to keep traffic moving on these priority routes, there will be some temporary changes to the way the road can be used.

The Olympic Route Network is needed along Marble Arch to Great Portland Street, to provide a key link between Wembley venues and the Olympic Park and south to Hyde Park venues and accommodation areas.

Engagement Exercise

TfL undertook an engagement exercise between 10 May and 3 June 2011 for the section of ORN known as Marble Arch to Great Portland Street. We wrote to residents and businesses within 400m of the ORN/PRN as well as local passenger and resident groups and other key stakeholders seeking their feedback on the proposals for the temporary changes to the roads in this area. We also held two drop-in sessions.

Thank you to those who took part in the consultation exercise, replying by our website, in writing, via the telephone or attending our drop-in sessions.

The views of those who responded have been recorded in the engagement report which can be found here.

In considering the feedback provided, the ORN’s operating times and dates have been reviewed. The ORN and its Games Lanes will now only operate during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and shortly before and after them for the arrival and departure of the Games Family.

What happens next

A formal consultation period will take place as part of the process of introducing Traffic Regulation Orders, which are required by law to enforce the proposed changes. This is due to start on or around 9 September 2011 and notices of the proposals will be published in local newspapers, on lampposts along the route and on the TfL website. This will provide an opportunity for formal representations to be submitted.

Once detailed proposals are finalised, we will continue to work with you to respond to your concerns and try to find solutions. Extensive travel Information before and during the Games will help you plan ahead and prepare for this once in a lifetime event.
