Nine Elms on the South Bank - Public Realm Design Guide

Closed 22 Mar 2015

Opened 16 Feb 2015

Results Updated 6 Apr 2016

We recently consulted with the local community and stakeholders on the Nine Elms on the South Bank Public Realm Design Guide. The consultation took place during February and March 2015.

We received 32 responses to the consultation. 13 were from stakeholder and community groups, 18 were from members of the public and one was from a local business.

There was no direct opposition to the Design Guide. The majority of the comments received from stakeholders focused upon editorial content and corrections required. There was also some comment on policy decisions within the document. Comments from members of the public focused on facilities in the area and on policy decisions in more general terms.

After carefully considering all responses, the Nine Elms on the South Bank Public Realm Working Group are reviewing the consultation draft of the Design Guide and are amending this where appropriate.

We expect that the Design Guide will be finalised and issued formally during summer 2015.

The Guide applies to an area from the Albert Embankment at Lambeth Palace in the London Borough of Lambeth, to Queenstown Road in the London Borough of Wandsworth. This area is defined as the Vauxhall Nine Elms Opportunity Area.

Good public realm should serve the interests of all users, inclusive of age, gender, ability and cultural differences. This Guide focusses on the distinct urban character of Nine Elms on the South Bank and aims to ensure that future design is both relevant, and reflective of the area. It also defines the structure of ten character areas within the community, as well as the overarching themes for good public realm.
