Nine Elms Lane - Section 1 - Macduff Road to Life Tabernacle Church (PDF)

Widened eastbound bus lane

  • The eastbound bus lane would be widened from 3.2 metres to 4.5 metres around the bus stop, providing a 1.7 metres passing lane for cyclists around buses waiting at stops. This negates the need for cyclists to merge with general traffic to pass around buses

Westbound mandatory cycle lane

  • The westbound lanes provide an onward link to Cycle Superhighway 8. It would be a new two metres wide mandatory cycle lane
  • The two metres wide cycle lane provided to pass the disabled parking bay would be advisory in this section
  • At this location cyclists would be required to merge with general traffic when buses are waiting at stops
  • Cyclists would join Cycle Superhighway 8 past Macduff Road

Relocated disabled parking bay

  • The disabled parking bay for the doctors’ surgery would be extended to 12 metres (2 spaces) and would be relocated onto the footway as the proposals are to build the footway out by 1.5 metres
  • When these parking bays are not in use the area would be available as pedestrian footway space
  • This enables the continuation of a two metres wide cycle lane between Queenstown Road and Macduff Road

Existing parking bays would have consistent hours of use

  • Current parking bays located here would have consistent hours, providing off peak parking Monday – Sunday 7pm to 7am, with 1 hour parking and no return within two hours

Changes to hours of Westbound loading bay

  • The westbound loading bay, east of Alfreda Street, would have its hours aligned with others in the area. Loading would be permitted in the off peak Monday – Sunday 7pm to 7am with loading time 20 minutes maximum and disabled parking three hours maximum.

Traffic lanes realigned

  • Traffic lanes would be realigned to provide a minimum width of three metres in both directions
  • All right turning pockets would be retained
  • The traffic island outside Life Tabernacle Church would be removed and replaced with road markings to allow for sufficient lane width
