Nine Elms Lane - Section 6 - 3 Riverlight Quay to mid Elm Quay Court (PDF)

Cycling facility improvements

  • There would be continuous cycle lanes in both directions measuring between two metres and 2.3 metres wide
  • There would be a bus stop bypass in the westbound direction opposite the Riverlight development.  This cycle lane would be 1.5 metres wide with a 2.5 metres wide pedestrian island
  • A video showing how bus stop bypasses operate is available here

Redesigned Ponton Road junction

  • This junction would provide cyclists travelling westbound with a cycle only green stage at the traffic lights. The approaching lane for these cyclists would be segregated
  • Cyclists travelling eastbound, straight across the junction, continuing on Nine Elms Lane would be provided with a bypass lane, however they would be required to stop at the pedestrian crossing on the east arm when it is red
  • Cyclists travelling east to south would have a right turn pocket at the junction, for waiting, until a cycle only green stage allows them to make the turn into Ponton Road. This green stage would also be for cyclists travelling westbound
  • Cyclists exiting Ponton Road would have a five metres deep Advanced Stop Line (ASL)
  • The east arm would have two lanes at the junction; one straight ahead and left turn lane, and one straight ahead lane
  • The south arm would have two lanes at the junction; one left turn lane and one right turn lane
  • The west arm would have two lanes at the junction; one straight ahead lane and one right turn lane with a right turn pocket in the centre of the junction
  • There would be staggered pedestrian crossings on the east and south arms of the junction

Bus lane improvements

  • The eastbound bus lane would continue to the stop line at the junction with Ponton Road and continues again after the pedestrian crossing
  • The westbound bus lane would end approximately 40 metres from the junction with Ponton Road and continue after the junction; the bus lane would then end approximately 65 metres from the junction with Cringle Street
  • The bus lanes would be operational at all times
