Overview

Summary of proposals

  • Segregated two-way cycle track on the north side of Creek Road as far as Norway Street
  • New 6-metre wide toucan crossing (for pedestrians and cyclists) on the western arm of junction of Creek Road and Norway Street, replacing crossing on the eastern arm
  • Simplified pedestrian crossing across Norman Road
  • Changes to bus lanes and some bus stops
  • New double yellow line restrictions

Improvements for cycling

  • Segregated two-way cycle on the north side of Creek Road, replacing eastbound bus lane between Glaisher Street and Clarence Road
  • The two-way cycle track would be 3 to 4 metres wide and the segregating kerb would be a minimum of 0.5 metres wide
  • Cyclists would be separately controlled at the Glaisher Street junction with dedicated low-level cycle signals providing safe passage along CS4
  • Cycle lane replaces southbound general traffic lane on Glaisher Street
  • Segregated two-way cycle track replaces one eastbound general traffic lane on Creek Road at the approach to the junction with Norway Street
  • Cyclists would be separately controlled at the Norway Street junction with dedicated low-level cycle signals providing safe passage along CS4
  • New toucan crossing (for pedestrians and cyclists) on the western arm of the Norway Street junction would provide cycle access to the two-way track from Norman Road
  • Segregated one-way cycle track on Creek Road replaces westbound general traffic lane on the approach to Norway Street, providing access to two-way track to continue journeys west along CS4
  • Improved cycle access and link to Thames Path cycle route

Improvements for walking

  • Footway widened and pedestrian crossing across Glaisher Street realigned
  • New 6-metre wide toucan crossing (for pedestrians and cyclists) on the western arm of the junction of Creek Road and Norway Street, replacing crossing on the eastern arm
  • Footway widened and pedestrian crossing across Norman Road simplified

Changes to buses

  • Eastbound bus lane between Glaisher Street and Clarence Road replaced by the two-way cycle track
  • Eastbound bus stop Z at Creekside on the north side of Creek Road would have a bypass for cyclists (find out more about bus stop bypasses)

Road design and layout

  • Eastbound general traffic lane on the approach to the Norway Street junction replaced by the two-way cycle track
  • Westbound general traffic lane on the approach to the Norway Street junction replaced by a one-way cycle track
  • Southbound general traffic lane on Glaisher Street replaced by cycle lane
  • Central island and hatching on Deptford Creek Bridge removed to accommodate two-way cycle track

  • Double yellow lines (no parking at any time) replace single yellow line:
    • On south side of Creek Road between Gonson Street and Norman Road (see Section 9)
    • On north side of Creek Road between Glaisher Street and Copperas Street
    • On east side of Glaisher Street between Creek Road and Clarence Road
    • On west side of Glaisher Street for 20 metres from the junction with Creek Road
    • On north side of Creek Road for 50 metres west of the junction with Norway Street
    • On Norway Street on both sides
