Mandatory cycle lanes provided in both directions from Lockington Road to Prince of Wales Drive

  • Mandatory cycle lanes would be provided in both directions from Lockington Road to Prince of Wales Drive
  • At the junction with Prince of Wales Drive the west arm would provide a 7.5 metres deep Advanced Stop Line (ASL) with the mandatory cycle lane feeding into the ASL
  • The east arm would provide a 1.7 metres wide cycle feeder lane into the part width ASL which covers the straight ahead and left turn lane only
    • Cyclists wishing to turn right would be provided with a two stage right turn facility
  • A video showing how a two-stage right turn operates is available here
  • Cyclists travelling between east and west, across the junction, would be provided with advisory cycle lanes across the junction
  • Between Prince of Wales Drive and Battersea Park Road, there is less space for segregation therefore we would install semi-segregation using highly visible traffic wands. Traffic wands are regularly spaced flexible poles that clearly define the cycle track

Widened pedestrian footway on the southeast corner of junction with Prince of Wales Drive and Havelock Terrace

  • The south east corner of the junction would see a widened pedestrian footway build out of 2.8 metres to reduce the crossing width across Havelock Terrace
  • The footway build out would allow the current staggered crossing across Havelock Terrace to be realigned to a straight across crossing
  • The crossing would retain an island in the centre of Havelock Terrace, however it would be reduced to 1.5 metres wide

New bus lanes in both directions

  • Bus lanes would be provided in both directions over the Bridge by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home
  • The hours of operation would be Monday - Sunday 7am-7pm.
  • These bus lanes would be 3.2 metres wide in both directions (subject to structural assessment)
  • Bus stops would remain in the same location on both sides of the carriageway
  • Cyclists would be required to merge with general traffic to pass a bus waiting at bus stops due to space constraints
  • The eastbound parking/loading bay would be relocated 25 metres east immediately after the bus stop cage. Parking and loading would change to Monday - Sunday 7pm-7am, loading 20 minutes maximum, disabled parking three hours maximum
