Proposed changes at the A21 Bromley Road / Crantock Road junction

Closed 1 Sep 2017

Opened 21 Jul 2017

Overview

We plan to improve the pedestrian facilities and traffic capacity at this junction by reducing the distance between crossing points and changing the timings of traffic signals.

Our plans will allow more vehicles to pass through the junction with each green traffic light phase, improving progression along the A21Bromley Road, including for the eight bus routes which pass through the junction. The changes will also allow increased crossing time and reduced crossing distance for pedestrians. We will also widen the existing advance stop lines (ASLs) to provide more space for cycles to wait ahead of other vehicles.

Our design engineers have analysed our plans to confirm that large vehicles will still be able to safely turn in and out of the retail park access road from Bromley Road.

Please see the map below for more detail:

We plan to start constructing the new junction layout in early 2018. We will write to local residents and businesses with further details prior to starting work.
