Results updated 18 Mar 2016

The consultation attracted a wide range of views from those living, working and travelling on and near Lambeth Palace Road. The 49 responses received were roughly evenly split between support and opposition towards the proposals.

The full report is attached below.

Conclusion and next steps:

Having considered the responses, and after detailed discussions with stakeholders we have decided to amend the scheme following feedback. We will not proceed with installing four new permanent bays on Lambeth Palace Road. However, it is noted that there is a desire to have more coach bays in central London. A series of meetings have been set up with stakeholders to investigate alternative arrangements.

Overview

Updated 18 March 2016

In November 2015, we consulted on proposals to introduce a new 60 metre off-peak coach parking bay on Lambeth Palace Road. This proposed new bay would replace some of the coach parking that was removed from Victoria Embankment because of the East-West Cycle Superhighway.

Background

We identified a suitable location on Lambeth Palace Road for a 60 metre off-peak coach parking bay. This new bay would replace some of the coach parking that will be removed from Victoria Embankment for the East-West Cycle Superhighway.

We chose Lambeth Palace Road because it provides easy access to central London.

What we proposed

The bay would be on the east (southbound) side of the road, close to Lambeth Palace and opposite St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School. The bay would be 60 metres long to provide space for four large coaches.

It would operate in the following way:

  • Coaches would be allowed to park free of charge from 10:00 to 16:00 and 19:00 to midnight Monday to Saturday and all day on Sunday
  • Coaches would be allowed to park for a maximum of one hour during operating times and would not be permitted to return within two hours

These operating times would ensure the bus and cycle lanes are kept clear during the morning and evening rush hours. The bus lane is in effect between 07:00 and 10:00 and between 16:00 and 19:00 Monday to Saturday.
