Proposed changes to Portland Avenue/Dunsmure Road junction with Stamford Hill

Closes 30 Nov 2018

Opened 19 Oct 2018

Overview

Transport for London (TfL) regularly looks for opportunities to improve the road network, and to make it safer for all road users.

We are proposing to introduce one-way operation and to ban some turns at the junction of Dunsmure Road and Portland Avenue with Stamford Hill. We will install a new signalised crossing to improve the area for pedestrians and we will improve the road markings for cyclists.

The redesign will help improve journey times for bus passengers and private vehicles, and will also make it easier and safer for both pedestrians and cyclists in the area.

What are we proposing?

We are proposing to introduce one-way operation for motorised traffic on Portland Avenue, meaning it would no longer be possible for vehicles to access Stamford Hill from Portland Avenue.

Our proposals include improving the pedestrian area and space for cyclists at the junction. We will do this by introducing a clearly visible cycle lane making it safer and easier for cyclists to exit Portland Avenue onto Stamford Hill. New road markings and priority space for cyclists will make it easier for drivers to spot them on the road and leave them enough space.

To improve connectivity for pedestrians, we are proposing to install a new signalised crossing south of Dunsmure Road connecting the eastern and western side of Stamford Hill. We will also realign the existing crossing north of Dunsmure Road.
