As part of our proposals we have developed a new alignment for the Bakerloo line between Lambeth North and Elephant & Castle. The proposed new alignment would allow us to provide a new Bakerloo line station at Elephant & Castle and (compared with the existing station location) would enable a shorter, quicker route for the existing line from Lambeth North to Elephant & Castle. The map above shows the indicative alignment. For more information see factsheet 1.

Tunnels between Elephant & Castle and Lewisham

Following the 2017 consultation we have decided on the location of the proposed stations and shafts.  We have also developed the alignment for two new tunnels from the proposed new Elephant & Castle Bakerloo line station platforms to the end of the line at the Wearside Road Council depot site near Lewisham town centre.

*Please note there are six pages of maps of the proposed tunnel alignment for the whole route including Lambeth North to Elephant & Castle, and Elephant & Castle to Lewisham. Scroll down to see all of the maps.

If your property is above the proposed tunnel alignment, we encourage you to look at our proposals and respond to the consultation. For more information see factsheet 2

We have written to every occupier above the proposed tunnel alignment about our proposals.

We need to build tunnels beyond Lewisham station to allow empty trains to be stabled. The proposed site is the Wearside Road Council depot. We consulted in 2017 on a shaft at this location to access tunnels, which was supported.  Our proposal for this site requires more land than we previously consulted on. We would no longer need a shaft at this site, as we are now proposing for the tunnels to come up into a larger basement level structure. This would allow us to access the tunnels via a head house, provide stabling, potentially reverse trains and remove the tunnel boring machines.
